Skiing and Dog Sledding in One Place?
December 23, 2009
The perfect ski vacation requires, of course, a great resort to stay at. But it also requires having great snow for skiing.. And for that, Steamboat Springs, Colorado perfectly fits the bill. Having some of the driest snow in the country, Steamboat is perfect for those who love powder skiing.
It also has no shortage of snow having averaged over 300 inches of snow per winter in the last few years. But Steamboat Springs is also a great tourist destination area.
Steamboat Springs is much more than a cookie cutter tourist trap, however. Part of its charm flows from its real life history as a small cattle town. And many visitors love the small town feel that the community exudes. The atmosphere of the town, as you might expect from a ski resort, is casual.
The community of Steamboat is also very much price friendly, especially for families. Skiing can be an expensive sport. And compared with places like Aspen and Vail, this is a welcome oasis for those seeking for a bit of price relief. Steamboat also has many good family ski packages available.
Another key to getting price breaks on your lodgings or cheap ski resorts is to opt to rent one of the many nearby condominiums. A condominium will typically give you a much better deal than you will get from most of the hotels. Most will also have nearby shuttle services to take you to and from the slopes.
But skiing is only a small part of all that Steamboat has to offer. It has some great trails, devoted to snowmobiling, where you’ll have breathtaking views that let you take advantage of when you need a respite from the ski slopes. And if you’re one of the more adventurous souls, there’s always dog sledding – probably one of the few places you’ll ever get to enjoy this past time outside of Alaska.
